Safety Checklist
- Look for trip hazards.
- Avoid sharp edges or points on equipment.
- Safety-tested rubber or rubber-like materials are used.
- Make sure that high areas have guardrails to avoid falls.
- Children should be supervised on playgrounds to ensure their safety.
- Regular examination of equipment and surfaces to avoid malfunction.
- Play structures taller than 30 inches should be spaced at least 9 feet apart.
- Check for potentially harmful hardware, such as open "S" hooks or protruding bolt ends.
- Ensure that the surfaces around the indoor playground equipment have at least 12 inches of wood chips or mulch.
- The protective surface should extend at least 72 inches in all directions from play equipment. Swings, in particular, surface should be double the height of the suspending bar in front and back.
- Spaces that might trap children, such as gaps in guardrails or between ladder rungs, should be less than 3.5 inches and no more than 9 inches.
